BABALAARS (ANISE CANDY) 
3 c. sugar
1 c. white Karo syrup
1 tsp. red food coloring
1/2 c. boiling water
1 tsp. anise oil

Mix sugar, syrup and water in 2 quart saucepan. Boil to 315 degrees (a candy thermometer is necessary). Remove from fire. Add anise oil and food coloring. Mix well. Pour into buttered pan. Begin marking as soon as candy is partially set. Continue going over markings until they stay. A wide metal spatula works well for marking. Break on the markings when hard.
