PICKLED HERRING | |
2 herrings 2 tsp. crushed allspice 6 bay leaves 1/2 c. vinegar 2 onions 1/2 c. sugar Soak herring 5-6 hours after removing insides. Clean herring (take skin off, remove bones). Cut and place in dish in layers of sugar, herring, spice, dash of pepper, bay leaves, onions. Add vinegar. Place something heavy on top. Let lay for two days. |
