GREAT APPLE BREAD | |
2 tbsp. butter 1/2 c. sugar 1 tsp. cinnamon 1 apple, cut in very thin slices 1 pkg. active dry yeast 3/4 c. warm water (110 degrees) 1/4 c. sugar 1 tsp. salt 2 1/4 c. flour 1 egg 1/4 c. shortening Melt butter in a 9"x9"x2" baking pan. Sprinkle 1/2 cup sugar and cinnamon over butter. Arrange apple slices on the bottom of pan. Sprinkle with raisins. Dissolve yeast in warm water, add 1/4 cup sugar, salt and 1 cup flour. Beat 2 minutes. Add egg, 1/4 cup shortening and rest of flour and beat until smooth. Spoon over apples. Cover pan and let rise in warm place until doubled in bulk, approximately 50 minutes. Bake at 375 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes or until brown. Immediately remove bread from pan by turning upside down onto serving plate. |
