PEANUT BUTTER CRISSCROSSES
2 c. sifted flour
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. chunky peanut butter
1/2 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1 egg
1/4 c. orange juice

Measure flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt into a sifter. Cream shortening, brown sugar and granulated sugar together. Add peanut butter and mix. Add egg and beat until fluffy. Sift in flour mixture, adding alternately with orange juice. Blend well to make a stiff dough. Chill until firm enough to handle. Roll dough a teaspoon at a time into a ball. Place 3 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet, flatten crisscross fashion with a fork that has been put in a bowl of granulated sugar. Bake in moderate oven (375 degrees) for 12 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from cookie sheet. Makes about 5 dozen.
