AUNT GRACE'S POUND CAKE | |
1/2 lb. butter 1/2 c. shortening 3 c. sugar (sift before using) 5 lg. eggs 3 1/2 c. flour (plain), sifted 1/8 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1 c. sweet milk with 2 tsp. vanilla 1/4 tsp. mace (also in milk) Cream butter and shortening. Add sugar. Blend well and add 1 egg at a time, beating in well after each egg is added. Sift flour 2 times and measure. Sift 3rd time with salt and baking powder added. After adding all flour and milk to creamed butter, shortening and eggs; add flour and milk. Alternate until all are in, then add 1/4 teaspoon mace and beat. Pour batter into tube pan that has been well greased and floured. Bake 1 1/2 hours at 300 degrees. Cool in pan 15 minutes. Start cake in cold oven and do not open oven until cake is done. Test with a broom straw. |
