OLD FASHIONED OATMEAL COOKIES 
1 c. raisins
1 c. water
3/4 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
2 c. oatmeal
1/2 c. nuts, chopped

Simmer raisins and water in saucepan 20-30 minutes. Drain liquid into measuring cup, add enough water to make 1/2 cup. Cream sugar, shortening and eggs. Add liquid. Sift dry ingredients and add to mixture. Stir in oats, raisins and nuts. Drop by rounded teaspoons about 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 8-10 minutes at 375 degrees or until brown. Makes about 5 dozen.
