W.'S FILLED OATMEAL COOKIES 
2 c. brown sugar
1 c. shortening (1/2 Crisco, 1/2 butter)
2 eggs
1 tsp. baking soda
Dash of salt
2 c. flour
2 c. quick oatmeal

FILLING:

1 pkg. dates, cut up
1 c. white sugar
1 c. water

Boil until thick, add nuts, if desired.

Combine ingredients in order, chill short while. Roll in balls, flatten. Top with small amount of filling and top with another flattened ball. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes.
