MATRIMONY CAKE 
1 lb. dates
1/2 c. sugar
1 c. water
1/2 c. nuts
3/4 c. butter
1 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
1 1/2 c. oatmeal, ground
1 1/2 c. flour
1/4 tsp. salt

Cook dates, sugar, and water until thick. Add nuts. Cream together butter, brown sugar, soda, ground oatmeal, flour, and salt. Pour half of mixture in pan. Cover with all of date mixture, then with other half. Bake 20 minutes in 320 degree oven.
