BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
6 lbs. med. cucumbers
1 1/2 c. sliced onions
2 lg. garlic cloves (whole)
1/3 c. salt
2 trays ice
4 1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
2 tbsp. mustard seed
1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
3 c. vinegar

Slice cucumbers 1/4 inch thick. Combine cucumbers, onion, garlic, salt. Cover with ice. Mix thoroughly. Let stand 3 hours. Drain. Remove garlic.

Combine sugar, spices, vinegar. Heat just to boil. Add cucumber, onion. Simmer 10 minutes. Pack loosely in jars, leave 1/2 inch space. Remove air bubbles. Process 10 minutes. 7 pints.
