OATMEAL COOKIES 
1 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
1/2 c. buttermilk
1 3/4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
3 c. quick oats
1 c. raisins
1/2 c. chopped walnuts

Cream shortening, sugar and eggs together until light and fluffy. Stir in buttermilk. Mix dry ingredients; stir into creamed mixture. Stir in oats, raisins and nuts. Drop from tablespoonsful 2 inches apart on lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake in hot 400 degree oven about 8 minutes. Cool slightly; remove from pan. About 5 dozen cookies.
