NANA'S APPLE CRISP | |
This was my mother's recipe she copied from the Birmingham News in the 1950s. It is amazing! The topping is fabulous, no need to add oatmeal. 1 (20 oz.) can apples (or 4 cups peeled, sliced fresh apples) 3/4 cup water TOPPING: 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) butter 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour 1 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. allspice 1/4 tsp. salt 1 1/2 cups brown sugar Melt butter in skillet, add flour, spices, salt and sugar. Mix with a fork. Spread over the apples and water in a 13x9-inch baking dish. Topping doesn't need to be smooth. Just sprinkle it over the apples and smooth with fingers. Bake at 350°F for 30 minutes. After baking place under broiler for a few minutes to crisp the topping. Serve plain or with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Submitted by: LJR |
