WILLIAMSBURG SUGAR COOKIE 
1/2 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. vegetable oil (Mazola or Crisco)
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 3/4 c. all purpose flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar

Cream butter, sugar and vegetable oil; add well beaten egg. Add vanilla, flour, salt, soda and cream of tartar. Drop onto greased baking sheet by teaspoonful. Press with bottom of glass slightly greased and dipped in sugar. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes, will brown rapidly after 7 minutes in some ovens. Should be lightly browned. Use well greased cookie sheets, cookies are very fragile.
