NEW YEAR'S CAKE
1/2 lb. butter
2/3 c. oil
2 1/3 c. sugar
3 eggs
2/3 c. milk
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tbsp. baking powder
1 shot glassful of cognac or whiskey
1/4 tsp. cinnamon (ground)
1/4 tsp. nutmeg (ground)
1/4 tsp. cloves (ground)
3 to 4 pieces mastika (ground) (optional)
Flour
Dimes, wrapped in aluminum foil

Place in a bowl, softened butter, oil, and sugar; beat well. Add eggs and beat. Add milk, cognac, baking soda, baking powder, and spices. Add enough of flour so that when you pinch the dough between 2 forks it will hold its shape.

Place dough in pie plates. Place a coin, wrapped in foil, in the dough (not on the top). Even out dough in pie plate. Co not fill pie plate with dough to the top (2/3 cull).

Pre-cut into pieces with sharp knife. Decorate by placing walnut (in a shell) in center. Place a few whole cloves in each piece. Bake at 325 degrees until golden brown or when toothpick comes out clean. Cool. The person who has the piece with coin in it will have "Good Luck for New Year".
