OATMEAL APPLE BARS 
2 c. unsifted all purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. quick cooking rolled oats
1 c. packed light brown sugar
Soft butter
4 apples, peeled and chopped (about 3 1/2 c.)
1 c. chopped nuts
1/2 c. granulated sugar

Sift flour, soda, and salt. Add oats, brown sugar and 1 cup butter. Mix with pastry blender until grainy. Pat half into lightly greased 15 x 10 x 1 inch pan. Cover mixture with the apples. Mix nuts and granulated sugar, sprinkle half on apples and dot with 3 tablespoons butter. Pat in remaining mixture. Cover with remaining nuts and sugar. Bake at 300 degrees for about 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until done. While still warm, cut in bars about 3 x 1 inch. Makes about 50.
