OATMEAL TRILBYS 
1 1/4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. butter
1 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. hot water
2 c. oatmeal

Sift then measure flour. Sift again with baking soda and salt. Cream butter and sugar. Add the dry ingredients alternately with hot water. Add oatmeal.

Form into rolls and chill overnight. Cut in 1/4 inch slices. Bake in 350 degree oven. Spread with date filling to make sandwich cookie.

DATE FILLING:

1/3 c. sugar
1/2 c. water
1 c. chopped dates
1 tbsp. lemon juice

Cook until thick, cool. Spread on cookies. Spread cookies as they are used.
