BUTTER COOKIES 
1/2 c. soft butter
3/4 c. sifted confectioners' sugar
1 tsp. vanilla (if you double this recipe, you need not add more vanilla)
2 1/2 c. sifted bread flour, or cake flour
Chopped walnuts or pecans, about 2 c.

Form into crescents or mounds. Bake in slightly greased cookie sheet until golden brown about 20 minutes at 350 degrees, placing the cookies on the highest upper rack of oven for the last 5 minutes of baking time.
