BROWN SUGAR MUFFINS 
1 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. shortening or butter
1 egg
1 c. milk
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
2 scant c. flour
1/2 c. nuts, dates or raisins

Cream together brown sugar and butter. Add rest of the ingredients and mix. Fill muffin tins (can use paper liners) and let sit at least one hour (or overnight in refrigerator). Bake 20 minutes at 350.
