MAPLE SUGAR COOKIES 
1 cup Crisco butter-flavored shortening
1 1/4 cups sugar
2 eggs
1/4 cup maple syrup
1 tbsp. vanilla
3 cups flour
3/4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

In a mixing bowl, beat together shortening and sugar until creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in syrup and vanilla.

In a separate bowl, mix together the remaining ingredients; gradually add to the sugar mixture. Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours or overnight.

On a lightly floured surface, roll dough out to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut with 2 to 3-inch cookie cutters dipped in flour. Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased baking sheets.

Preheat oven to 375°F for at least 15 minutes before baking. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and cool on a wire rack. Store in an airtight container.

Makes about 48 small cookies.
