GUMDROP CAKE 
1 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. applesauce
1 c. butter
4 c. flour
2 eggs
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda, dissolved in 1 tbsp. water
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. allspice
1 tsp. cinnamon, or 2 tsp. pumpkin pie spice
1 lb. raisins
2 lb. chopped gumdrops
2 c. nuts

Cream butter and sugar. Add well-beaten eggs. Add 2 cups flour, spice, soda and applesauce. Mix well. Sift remaining 2 cups flour over raisins, nuts and gumdrops.

Add to above mixture.

Bake 2 hours in greased and floured tube pan at 300°F. Let cool 1/2 hour.
