ROYAL VELVET CAKE 
1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
2 eggs
1 oz. red food coloring
1 tsp. vanilla
2 tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vinegar

Preheat oven to 350°F. Combine baking soda and vinegar and let set. Combine other ingredients thoroughly and add baking soda/vinegar mixture last.

Bake for 30 minutes.

Frosting:

1 c. milk
3 tbsp. flour
1 c. sugar
1 c. lite Crisco shortening
1 tsp. vanilla
dash of salt

Cook milk and flour until thick. Be sure to cool completely. Beat sugar and shortening until fluffy. Add 1 tablespoon of flour mixture. Then add the rest. Add vanilla and salt.
