CHERRY "PUDDING" COBBLER 
1 can sour cherries, reserve juice

Put cherries in bottom of greased 8 x 10 inch pan.

STEP 1 - BATTER:

3 tbsp. shortening
3/4 c. sugar

Cream together.

1 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/8-1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. milk

Sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Mix milk alternately with dry ingredients. Add to creamed sugar. Spread batter (will be thick) over cherries.

STEP 2:
2 tbsp. flour
3/4 c. sugar (or less)
1/8 tsp. salt

Mix together and spread over batter.

STEP 3:

Heat reserved juice (add water if necessary to make 1 cup). Add 1/4 teaspoon almond extract. Pour over top of batter and sugar mixture. Bake uncovered 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Serve slightly warm with whipped cream.
