ORANGE SLICE CAKE 
2 sticks butter
2 c. sugar
1 tsp. baking soda
1 lb. chopped dates
1 1/2 c. buttermilk
2 c. pecans
4 c. plain flour
pinch of salt
4 eggs
1 lb. orange candy slices
1 can coconut

Cut up dates, candy and nuts with flour. Cream together butter, sugar and eggs. Add 1 cup buttermilk. Add soda to other 1/2 cup buttermilk, then add to creamed mixture. Add flour mixture and mix well.

Bake in tube pan at 275°F for 3 hours.

Glaze:

1 can frozen orange juice, thawed
1 1/2 c. light brown sugar

Mix well and pour over cake while hot and still in tube pan. Wait 10 minutes and turn out on waxed paper and then upright on plate.
