DATE NUT DROP COOKIES 
1/2 c. shortening
1 egg
1 1/2 c. flour (reserve 1/4 c.)
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 c. dates
1 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. milk
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. ground clove
1/4 c. pecans

Cream shortening, sugar, and egg. Combine all dry ingredients. Reserve 1/4 cup of flour; add to dates and pecans and chop. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk. Add dates and pecans. Drop on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 10-15 minutes. Makes 3-4 dozen.
