1 c. butter 1 c. buttermilk 4 eggs 2 c. nuts 1 tsp. cinnamon 1 c. sugar 1 tsp. baking soda 3 c. flour 3/4 c. blackberry jam 1/2 c. strawberry preserves Mix and bake in 3 layers at 325 degrees, 25 to 30 minutes. ICING (Burnt Sugar Filling) : 1 1/2 c. white sugar 1 c. sweet milk 1/2 c. butter Let this boil a while and add a pinch of baking soda. It will foam up. Put 2/3 cup sugar in a small skillet and let brown like syrup. When the filling has cooked enough, gradually pour the hot syrup in, beating fast so it will not lump. Beat until it begins to set; ice cake. |
