BANANA NUT OATMEAL COOKIES 
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 c. mashed bananas
1 3/4 c. oatmeal
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Sift dry ingredients together. Cream shortening, add sugar gradually. Beat until fluffy. Add egg; mix well. Blend in bananas, oats, flour mixture and nuts. Drop by teaspoonful on greased cookie sheets. Bake in preheated oven at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes until lightly browned. Makes about 8 dozen.

To keep cookies from drying out, store in tightly closed container with an apple.

I have gotten marriage proposals over these...lol. They are really good! I switch between using walnuts and pecans and it works great either way. They are the best fresh from the oven and still warm but I have sent them to Marines overseas and they enjoyed them just the same.

This recipe is one of the best I have ever made. It is like a bite size piece of Banana bread. I have brought this to parties and family gatherings and they go very quickly. The shortening keeps them more moist than using butter or margarine. I recommend this recipe to everyone I know. Yummy!!!
