POUND CAKE 
1 c. shortening (butter or Crisco)
6 eggs, separated
3 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
3 c. sugar
1 c. buttermilk
1/4 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. lemon or orange extract

Cream shortening and sugar. Add egg yolks and extract to creamed shortening and sugar; beat together until well blended. Sift together flour, soda and salt, and add alternately with buttermilk. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites. Bake in 10 inch tube pan for 1 hour 10 minutes in 350 degree oven.
