HUNGARIAN BEAN BAKE (MAGYAR PUSI SUTENY) | |
10-12 slices lean bacon, diced 3 med. onions, sliced thin 1/2 c. vinegar 1 c. white sugar 1 can cut green beans, drained 1 can butter beans, drained 1 can navy beans, drained 1 can lima beans, drained 2 cans pork and beans, undrained Fry diced bacon over medium heat until fat becomes clear, bacon should not be crisp, just soft. Remove bacon and saute sliced onions in bacon fat. Add bacon, vinegar, and sugar and simmer 10 minutes over medium heat. In baking dish combine green beans, butter beans, navy beans, lima beans, and pork and beans with sauce from pork and beans can. Pour onion, bacon sauce over bean mixture. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Excellent for picnics or covered dish dinners. TIP: Pour first 4 beans in colander while making sauce. The bean mix easier this way. |
