CRISP PICKLE SLICES OR RELISH 
5 qts. med. cucumbers, sliced
8 med. onions, sliced
2 red peppers
2 green peppers
Canned pimentos (optional for coloring)

SYRUP:

3 c. white vinegar
5 c. sugar
1 tbsp. mustard seed
2 tsp. celery seed
1 tsp. turmeric
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. salt

Wash and slice cucumbers 1/4 inch thick. Add onions, peppers and garlic. Stir in tray of ice cubes and 1/3 cup salt, and 1/4 teaspoon alum between layers of cucumbers. Let stand 3 hours. Drain.

Make a syrup of other ingredients. Divide into two batches (to insure crispness). Add cucumbers to the boiling syrup. Bring to boil. Put in hot jars and seal. This also makes a good relish. Ingredients must be chopped or ground and drained.
