GRANDMA'S FRUIT COOKIES 
3 c. brown sugar
6 eggs
1 c. strawberry jam
1 lb. raisins
2 tsp. cinnamon
2 tsp. ground cloves
2 c. shortening or butter
1 sm. can (#2) crushed pineapple, candied
1 lb. chopped dates
1 or 2 c. chopped nuts
2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking soda dissolved in 2 tsp. black molasses
8 c. flour

Candy the pineapple by cooking with 1 cup white sugar, use silverstone skillet, low heat and stir often until candied.

Cream shortening, add brown sugar. Beat eggs and add gradually. Sift flour, salt and spices together and add to mixture, then add the molasses and soda mixture to the batter. Add the fruit, jam and nuts last. Chill 1 hour, then drop from spoon on cookie sheet. Bake 15 minutes at 350 degrees. This makes enough to send to all of Grandma's grandkids!
