PRUNE LAYER CAKE 
1/2 c. + 1 tbsp. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
3 tbsp. light brown sugar
3 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. almond extract
1 c. liquid from cooked prunes
2 1/4 c. flour
1 1/4 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. allspice
3/4 c. chopped prunes
2/3 c. chopped walnuts

Cream shortening and sugars. Mix in eggs, flavorings and prune juice; blend. Sift in flour, raisins, salt and spices; blend. Beat well. Add chopped prunes and nuts; mix. Spread batter in 2 (10") layer pans; bake at 350 degrees about 40 to 42 minutes or until done.
