SUGAR COOKIES 
1 c. butter
2 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
3 eggs, well beaten
1/2 tsp. salt
4 c. sifted flour

Cream butter or other shortening; add sugar, vanilla, and continue creaming until light and fluffy. Add eggs and beat well. Sift salt and flour and add to first mixture, using more flour, if necessary to make a stiff dough. Chill 1 hour.

Roll out to 1/4 inch thick; cut with cookie cutter. OPTIONAL: Sprinkle with sugar. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet at 400 degrees for about 10 minutes. May be doubled. Makes about 6 dozen cookies.
