HOMEMADE VANILLA ICE CREAM 
2 c. sugar
6 tbsp. flour
1 tsp. salt
5 c. milk
6 eggs
4 c. half and half
3 tbsp. vanilla
Rock salt
Cracked ice

In large heavy saucepan, combine sugar, flour, and salt. In medium bowl beat milk and eggs with wire whisk until well blended. Stir into sugar mixture until smooth. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until mixture thickens and coats spoon, about 30-45 minutes. Cover surface with waxed paper and refrigerate to cool, about 2 hours or make a day ahead.

Pour half and half and vanilla into cooled mixture and pour into freezer can. Churn. Makes about 3 quarts.
