MY DAD'S CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES
Okay, the recipe's stolen, but the pleasure's all mine.

2/3 c. butter, softened (forget butter - this is not a time to trade
intense pleasure for a few unclogged arteries - as for money, if you aren't worth the best, who is?)
2/3 c. shortening
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. sugar
3 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda (I'm pretty sure this is right, but it may be powder - whichever one it is, it comes in the box, not a can)
1 tsp. salt
Chocolate chips (don't you dare use those fake things)

Open bag of chocolate chips. Eat some.

Mix together until creamy the butter, shortening, eggs, vanilla and sugars. Eat some. It's incredible, and really, I can't think of a good reason to ruin it with flour and baking, except it's hard to serve to guests, but if you must continue..

Sift flour, salt and baking soda (see note in ingredients). Don't eat any. It tastes terrible and leaves a ring around the mouth.

Mix with other stuff, slowly at first, or you'll be dusting flour off everything for a week. Now eat some. Sure it's not as good as before, but it's still terrific.

Add as many chocolate chips as you want and stir until evenly spread throughout the batter. Eat some more. Spoon rest onto cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes, one sheet at a time. This prevents burning the bottoms of the cookie son the lower pan and give you more time to eat dough before it's cooked.

If you like cookies soft, take them out while they still look uncooked with a hint of browning around the edges. If you wait until the cookies are brown, they'll end up crispy, which isn't bad (a crispy cookie is better than a soft tuna fish sandwich, for instance), but I prefer them soft.

Eat some cookies while they're still hot and the chocolate runny. If there are any cookies left, cool them. As soon as they're cool, eat some more. Brush crumbs into Tupperware box. Fall into bed; sleep well. Jog in the morning.

Note: This recipe can be cut in half, but half the cookies is a quarter the joy.

Note: Because of the concern over salmonella poisoning from eating raw eggs, I now advise using Egg Beaters instead of eggs. Same taste, same yummy results and you won't die the next day (at least from eating cookies). Rich.
