APPLESAUCE FRUIT CAKE 
3 c. applesauce
1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
1 lb. pitted dates, chopped
1 c. mincemeat
1 lb. raisins (1/2 muscats, 1/2 dark)
1 lb. mixed fruit
4 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt

Boil applesauce, shortening and sugar together for 5 minutes, stir occasionally. Cool. Mix fruits and nuts if used in a 3 quart mixing bowl. Sift flour, soda, salt and spices, coat all fruit.

Stir in cooled applesauce mixture. Pour into greased wax paper lined loaf pans. Bake in slow oven 250 degrees for 2 hours or until toothpick comes out dry when tested. Remove from pans cool. Stir in wax paper in cool place or freeze.
