WHOLE WHEAT BANANA BREAD 
1 1/2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 c. whole wheat flour
1 c. bananas, mashed
1/4 c. water or buttermilk
1/4 c. shortening
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 egg, slightly beaten

Sift flour; measure; add baking powder, soda and salt; sift again and add whole wheat flour; mix well. Combine bananas and water or buttermilk.

Cream shortening; add sugar gradually; continue beating until light and fluffy. Add egg and mix until smooth. Add dry ingredients alternately with banana mixture, stirring just enough to combine. Do not beat.

Turn into a greased loaf pan (9 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches) and bake in a moderate oven (350 degrees) for about 1 hour.
