GUMDROP FRUIT CAKE 
Sift together and set aside:

4 c. sifted reg. flour
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. salt

Combine following:

1 lb. pkg. orange slice candy, cut up
1 or 2 lbs. mixed gumdrops (omit black)
1 1/2 c. golden raisins
1/2 c. dark seedless raisins
1 1/2 c. coarsely chopped nuts

Add half of sifted ingredients. Mix until candy and nuts are well coated. Set aside.

Work with a spoon until soft -- 1 cup butter. Gradually add while beating 1 cup sugar, beat until light. Add 2 eggs (one at a time) and beat until light and fluffy.

Combine and add:

1 tsp. hot water
1 tsp. baking soda

Mix well. Add alternately 1 1/2 cups sweetened applesauce, remaining sifted dry ingredients. Mix until smooth. Add gumdrop/nut mixture. Mix until well blended. Spoon into greased and wax paper lined 10 inch tube pan. Bake at 275 for 2 1/2 to 3 hours or until done. Let cool, then wrap and store in refrigerator.

Can use 2 pounds gumdrops and omit cinnamon and cloves.
