BEEF STEW 
2 tbsp. fat
2 lbs. beef chuck stew meat
1 lg. onion, sliced
4 c. hot water
1 tbsp. each salt & lemon juice
1 tsp. each sugar & Worcestershire sauce
1/4 tsp. pepper
1/2 tsp. paprika
1 bay leaf
Dash of allspice
6 or more carrots
3 or more potatoes

Brown the meat in the fat. Add all but carrots and potatoes. Cover and simmer for 2 hours. Add as many carrots and potatoes as you prefer. Simmer 30 minutes or until veggies are done. Mix 1/2 cup cold water with 1/4 cup flour and use to thicken gravy.
