FRESH LUMPIA (PALM HEART) 
1 c. ground pork or beef
1 c. carrots, shredded
1 c. shelled, shrimp, chopped
1 med. onion, thinly sliced
3 cloves garlic, crushed
1 tsp. fish sauce
1/2 tsp. ground black pepper
Salt to taste
2 tbsp. oil
Lettuce leaves
Egg roll or lumpia wrappers
MSG

Brown garlic in hot oil. Add onion. Saute until transparent. Add pork or beef and shrimp. Season with fish sauce, pepper, salt and MSG. Keep on stirring until meat and shrimp are tender. Add carrots and cover until vegetables are tender, but firm. Remove from fire and drain remaining broth and save for lumpia sauce, cool and set aside.

Place lettuce leaf on each individual wrapper and put 2 tablespoons filling in each. Seal each wrapper by brushing with water. Serve with lumpia sauce.

SAUCE:

1 c. reserved broth (add water if necessary)
2 tsp. sugar
1 tbsp. cornstarch
1/2 tsp. MSG
3 tbsp. soy sauce

Mix all ingredients until cornstarch and sugar are dissolved, boil gently, stirring constantly until sauce thickens.
