BLOND BROWNIES 
1 c. flour
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1/3 c. shortening
1/2 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 pkg. chocolate chips

Sift flour, salt, baking soda and baking powder together. Add nuts; set aside.

Melt shortening. Add sugar and 1 tablespoon hot water (if vegetable shortening is used). Cool.

Add egg and vanilla. Mix in flour mixture gradually. Use 9"x9"x2" pan. Put chocolate chips on top. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes.
