CHOCOLATE APPLESAUCE CAKE 
1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 (16 oz.) can applesauce
3 c. flour
2/3 c. cocoa
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. hot water
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and beat well. Add applesauce, flour, cocoa and spices. Dissolve baking soda in hot water and let cool. Add it to mixture and mix well. (Add 1/2 cup raisins if desired.) Bake in Bundt pan for 1 hour at 350 degrees. This recipe makes a large cake. Glaze or frost if desired.
