DEVIL'S - FOOD APPLESAUCE CAKE 
CHOCOLATE - PECAN TOPPING:

1/3 c. all-purpose flour
1/4 c. sugar
3 tbsp. oil
1/2 c. chopped pecans or walnuts
1/2 c. semi-sweet chocolate chips

CAKE:

1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 c. sugar
1/3 c. unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. unsweetened applesauce
1/2 c. oil
2 lg. eggs

Heat oven to 350 degrees.

Prepare Topping: Mix flour and sugar in a small bowl. Stir in oil, then nuts and chocolate chips.

Make Cake: Put flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, and salt into an ungreased 8 inch square baking pan. Stir with a fork to mix well. Add applesauce, oil, and eggs. Stir until well blended. Using a rubber spatula; scrape any ingredients clinging to the sides into the batter. Sprinkle topping over batter. Bake 35- 40 minutes until pick inserted near center comes out clean. Cool in pan on rack.
