BLACK WALNUT CREAM CAKE 
2 c. sugar
5 eggs, separated
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. Crisco
2 c. all-purpose flour
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. flaked coconut
1 c. chopped black walnuts
1/2 tsp. black walnut flavoring
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream sugar, butter and Crisco. Gradually add egg yolks (one at a time), beating well after each addition. Add baking soda to the buttermilk and let stand a few minutes. Add flour and buttermilk mixture alternately. Stir in flavorings, black walnuts and coconut. Let egg whites stand at room temperature, then beat until they form peaks. Makes 3 (8 inch) layers. Bake at 325 degrees for 25-30 minutes. Cool and top with black walnut frosting.

BLACK WALNUT FROSTING:

1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese
6 tbsp. butter
1 (1 lb.) box confectioners' sugar
1/4 tsp. black walnut flavoring
1 tsp. vanilla flavoring
1/2 c. black walnuts, finely chopped
