APPLE PANDOWDY 
6 cooking apples
2 tbsp. flour
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tsp. white vinegar
1/2 c. water
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. butter
2 tbsp. granulated brown sugar replacement

Peel, core and slice apples; place in bottom of 9 inch square dish. Combine flour, salt, vinegar, and water in saucepan and cook over medium heat for 5 minutes. Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla, butter, and brown sugar replacement, and pour mixture over apple slices.

CRUMB TOPPING:

1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. butter
1/4 c. skim milk

Combine flour, baking powder, salt, and shortening in bowl; work into fine crumbs. Stir in milk just until mixture is moistened. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto apple mixture. Bake at 400 degrees for 30-35 minutes or until lightly brown.
