1/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg
2 1/2 c. shredded apples
1 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. nuts

Mix in order. Bake in oiled and floured pan for 45 minutes at 350 degrees.

Serve with butter sauce or plain.

BUTTER SAUCE:

2 heaping tbsp. brown sugar
1/4 stick butter
1 tsp. flour

Mix. Add water and cook.
