1 c. shortening (better if part butter is used)
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
2 c. flour (measure before sifting)

Blend together all ingredients. Roll into little balls and flatten with a sugar coated glass. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 10 minutes, or until slightly tan on edges, don't let them get too brown. Makes about 50 cookies.
