BROCCOLI-ONION DELUXE | |
1 lb. fresh broccoli, lightly steamed (or) 2 (10 oz.) pkgs. frozen cut broccoli, cooked 2 c. frozen sm. whole onions (or) 3 med. onions, quartered 1/4 c. butter 2 tbsp. flour 1 c. milk 1/2 c. shredded sharp American cheese (2 oz.) 1 c. soft bread crumbs 1/4 tsp. salt 1 (3 oz.) pkg. cream cheese Drain cooked broccoli well. Cook frozen or fresh onion in boiling salt water until tender. Drain. In saucepan melt half of the butter. Blend in flour, salt, and dash pepper. Add milk. Cook, stirring constantly, until thickened and bubbly. Reduce heat; blend in cream cheese until smooth. Place vegetables in 1 1/2 quart casserole. Pour sauce mixture over and mix lightly. Top with American cheese. Melt the remaining butter; toss with bread crumbs. Sprinkle on top casserole. Bake at 350 degrees until heated through, 40-45 minutes. |
