BAKLAVA 
1 lb. phyllo
1 1/2 c. sweet butter, melted
1 lb. walnut meats, finely chopped
5 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
3 1/2 c. water
3 c. sugar
Cinnamon stick

Place 10-12 sheets of phyllo, each buttered generously at bottom of 9x13x2 inch pan. Combine walnuts, sugar and cinnamon. Spread 1/3 of mixture over phyllo. Butter 5 or 6 more phyllo sheets and place over mixture. Spread another 1/3 of nut mixture over phyllo. Cover with 5 or 6 more buttered phyllo sheets. Add remaining nut mixture. Cover with remaining phyllo sheets, all generously buttered.

Cut baklava into diamond shapes. Heat remaining butter until very hot and beginning to brown. Pour evenly over baklava. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Reduce heat to 300 degrees. Bake 1 hour more. Cool.

SYRUP: Boil water, sugar, and cinnamon stick together for 20 minutes. Pour hot syrup over cool baklava.
