SOFT AND CHEWY PEANUT BUTTER
COOKIES

2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 1/4 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
1 1/4 c. white sugar
1 c. butter, softened
3 lg. eggs
1 c. creamy peanut butter
2 tsp. vanilla

Preheat oven to 300 degrees. In a medium bowl, combine flour, soda and salt. Mix well and set aside. In large bowl, blend sugars using an electric mixer. Add butter to form a grainy paste. Add eggs, peanut butter and vanilla. Beat at medium speed until light and fluffy. Add flour mixture and mix at low speed until just mixed.

Drop by rounded tablespoons onto an ungreased cookie sheet. With a wet fork (be sure to dip fork in water after each cookie as dough is sticky), gently press a criss-cross pattern on top of cookie. Bake 9 to 12 minutes. Transfer immediately to a cool surface.

Soft and Chewy Peanut Butter Cookies

I've found that with sticky doughs (such as this one) it's better to roll the dough ball in white sugar before putting it on a tray to bake. This way it's easier to do the criss-cross with the fork because you don't have to wet it, and it's a nice touch to the finished product.

I'm blow away!!! I'm in love with this recipe especially because its a combination of sweet and salty. TIP to all those who want to spice it up a bit. Boil milk and add semi sweet chocolate and mix until u get a glaze and cover the cookies with the chocolate. Delicious.

Fantastic!!! I cooked mine at 325°F for 14 minutes - turned out incredibly chewy and soft in the center and lightly crispy on the edges. Delightful peanut butter flavor. Will be making these again and again!!

I think this recipe is very good, my brother and I just made a batch a couple of minutes a go and my mom is like this recipe is very strange and because she said that is because usually you have flour in there unless its a no bake one but I told her to look and so we tried it and it is AWSOMELY FABULOUS!!!

This appears to be the same recipe as Mrs. Fields. However, Mrs. Fields calls for baking 19-22 mins. These need more time in the oven.

8pm at night and my family wants cookies 1 week before we move and the cookbook I have used for 25 years is packed. The cookies were such a hit, they didn't make it through the night. All 24 cookies were gone by morning. You saved the day, thank you.

Have the second batch in the oven now. They are wonderfully delicious! Although I did slightly tweak the amounts of sugar added. So glad I did! They would have been way too sweet. I used only 3/4 cup of White and only 1 cup of brown sugar. I also added chocolate chips to the batch. I will definitely make this recipe again!

I'm 12 years old and I made these cookies and my family loved them. My sister tried to make peanut butter cookies but they didn't turn out great. And today I made more and I'm sending some to my other sister that is in collage so we don't see her. This is a great recipe. And I hope my sister loves these cookies. Thanks cooks.com!

These are great, but the cooking time/temp was way off for me. I did them for 15 minutes at 375°F and they came out great. Maybe I just make big cookies, but at 300°F they just never got done... as in like 30 minutes in the oven and still underdone!

This receipt is great. I did add about 3/4 cup more flour just to stiff up the batter a little bit. As well as I put the oven on 325°F instead of 300°F other than that they are simple and easy to do with my daughter!

 Heather (Pennsylvania) says:
Definitely chewy, after the first round at 300°F (cooking almost 20 minutes) I took others suggestion and upped temp to 325, still came out pretty flat....I'm used to pb cookies looking rounder (next time I might up the amount of flour and mix chunky pb with creamy)... Oh well they taste good!
