BAVARIAN RED CABBAGE 
1 sm. (2 1/2 lb.) head red cabbage
1 med. onion, chopped (1 c.)
3 tart apples, cored and quartered, or sliced
3 tbsp. bacon fat or butter
1 c. hot water
1 1/2 tbsp. sugar
1/2 c. vinegar

Mix and place all ingredients in a crock pot. Cover and cook on low heat for 8 to 10 hours (or on high heat for 3 hours). Stir well before serving. Excellent served with a rich meat. Serves 8-10.
