BAVARIAN RED CABBAGE 
1 sm. head red cabbage, washed and coarsely sliced
1 med. onion, chopped
3 tart apples, cored and quartered
1 tsp. salt
1 c. hot water
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. vinegar
3 tbsp. bacon grease or butter

Place all ingredients in crock pot in order listed. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours (High 3 hours). Stir well before serving. Serve with a rich meat.
